The London Borough of Newham is located North of London City airport a distance of 3 miles that would take around 15 minutes by taxi via the A112. It is located east of London to the north of the River Thames and has a population of 310,500 according to 2011 statistics.

Some of the main centres of Newham include Stratford, Forest Gate, Manor Park, Upton, Upton Park, East Ham, Beckton, Plaistow and Canning Town. It is bordered by Tower Hamlets and Hackney to the West, Waltham Forest and Redbridge to the North, Barking and Dagenham to the East and Greenwich to the South. It was the former home of the Royal Docks that were built in 1850 and with this it grew to be the most important manufacturing centre in southern England. The industries that were established there provided employment to many people that came from all over the UK but also many Indians, Chinese, Africans, Jews and Italians. Today Newham is recorded as the local authority with the most diverse population in the country.

The borough is home to West Ham United Football Club which attracts many Londoners and visitors to the area and it also played host to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Other places of interest include Stratford town centre, Westfield Stratford City, Newham City Farm, the Royal Docks for a scenic waterfront walk or ride on the Emirates Airline Cable Car - giving panoramic views of the River Thames.
